Preschooler holding a brush with proper tripod grip

A gentle, joyful path to Primary 1 readiness

5 and 6 year olds are at a remarkable threshold. Pencil grips are forming. Stories are spilling out faster than they can draw them. Following multi-step instructions is a brand-new superpower. Our preschool workshops are designed around exactly these milestones — building the school-readiness skills that matter, through art they actually look forward to.

  • Brushwork before pencil work — develops the hand-eye control that smooth handwriting depends on.
  • Three-step instructions — practising follow-through in a low-pressure setting.
  • Show-and-tell built in — articulating ideas, expanding vocabulary.
  • Process and product — children leave with finished work they're proud to talk about.

How a Young Creator Season session is built

Ages 5–6 sit right in our Young Creator Season (4–7). Every monthly theme weaves together six approaches — not a single craft to pick, but a rotation that keeps each session fresh while building real skills.

Preschool workshop FAQs

Common questions from K1 and K2 parents.

How is this different from a typical kids' art workshop?
Our preschool format is intentionally built around what 5–6 year olds need before Primary 1: pencil-grip development through brushwork, multi-step instruction practice, and storytelling moments. The art is the vehicle — the school-readiness benefits ride along with it.
Will my child actually learn anything?
Yes — but quietly. Each session targets specific developmental skills (fine motor, sequencing, vocabulary, focus) without it ever feeling like work. Parents typically notice better pencil control, longer focus, and more talkative show-and-tell within a few visits.
What if my child isn't artistic?
There's no such thing at this age. Every preschooler can succeed in our format because the focus is on the doing, not the talent. Our facilitator gently meets each child wherever they are.
How long is each session?
60 minutes — broken into a welcome circle, guided creating, free expression, and show-and-tell. Perfectly matched to a 5–6 year old's growing focus span.
Can I drop off and leave?
Yes, absolutely. Most preschoolers settle in within minutes. You can wait in our café, run an errand, or come back at pickup time — your choice.
How big are the groups?
Preschool groups stay small so the facilitator can support each child personally — especially during the show-and-tell moment, which works best with focused attention.
How often should my child attend for school-readiness benefits?
Once a week is the sweet spot. Many parents pair our weekly sessions with the practice prompts in our parent guide for steady, low-pressure progress.
Is the workshop aligned to MOE preschool curriculum?
Our themes echo the broad areas explored in K1 and K2 — community helpers, weather, festivals, transport, and so on — so what your child encounters here reinforces (rather than competes with) their kindergarten experience. We're a creative complement, not a substitute.
What about left-handed children?
Fully welcome and supported. Our facilitator adjusts seating, tool placement, and demonstrations naturally — no fuss, no labelling.
Do you offer trial sessions?
Yes. Message us on WhatsApp to book a trial — it's the simplest way to see whether the format clicks for your child.
Are the materials safe?
All paints and materials are non-toxic and child-safe. If your child has specific allergies (latex, certain dyes), please let us know in advance and we'll adjust.
